How many alcoholic drinks can a man drink per day and not hurt his health?
indianprincesswareagle asked:
Assume the person has regular doctor visits and exams. When recommendations are published by reputable health organizations, they say 2 per day. Is this just to cover the whole wide world and could vary from 0 to 4 a day, i.e. average 2 per day?

No matter how much anybody drinks they are always hurting their health. Alcohol isn’t good for your body at all.

Talk to your doctor if you need an answer to this or use your common sense.

I wouldn’t push it beyond 1 or 2.

The recommendation in the UK is no more than 4 units per day for a man (2 pints of beer) or no more than 3 for a woman (1.5 pints)
The advice is that these are safe amounts, not that it is harmless, or even beneficial. It is also not advised to ever exceed this daily amount on a given day. That is to say, it is not wise to think you can drink nothing all week, and then have 14 pints of beer on a Friday.

A typical male can safely drink 2-3 drinks a day with no health risks. Some studies suggest that drinking daily, especially red wine, can even improve health and lengthen your lifespan.
